Report Overview

The U.S. Travel Trends series offers a recurring analysis of key trends in the American travel industry, covering both ongoing trends and a special topic each quarter. The Q2 2024 report places a spotlight on family travel, offering key insights into family motivations, preferences, and behaviors. For this report, we rolled out the survey to approximately 1,000 Americans, filtering the responses to focus specifically on those who traveled with family.

Family travel trends indicate a significant rise in multi-generational trips, reflecting a growing desire for shared experiences among family members. Many families are prioritizing bonding time and creating lasting memories during their travels, with a focus on trips that cater to a range of ages and interests. This shift is evident as families seek out diverse activities that can engage everyone, from city tours to nature retreats. Additionally, shorter trips have become increasingly popular, allowing families to enjoy frequent getaways that fit into their busy schedules.

In addition to examining family travel, the report highlights broader trends in U.S. travel, revealing a strong preference for domestic destinations and short getaways. It emphasizes the popularity of urban destinations while also recognizing the appeal of smaller towns and countryside escapes. Accommodations remain primarily in hotels, but vacation rentals are gaining traction for their flexibility and comfort, particularly among families.

The findings indicate a growing confidence among travelers regarding their financial situations, with many families planning to increase their travel spending in the coming year. This optimistic outlook is coupled with a rising interest in sustainability, although cost considerations continue to influence travel choices. Overall, the report provides valuable insights into the evolving dynamics of family and general travel in the U.S.
